Welcome to our 33rd year of recreational golf. Even through the Covid years, our Club is thriving. We have 10 foursomes playing each month, from May to August, with approximately 30 spares ready to take up the slack. In September, we will organize a new set of foursomes, based on handicaps.
I would like to thank our Executive Members, some of whom have already put more than a few hours to get things set up. From establishing a fee schedule for 2025; to sending out Registration Notices; to collecting and depositing payments; to preparing a Membership List; to up-dating the Website; to preparing a computerized Team List; to printing the Roster Booklet; to preparing the eHandicap System and providing Statistics; to running the Spares Request System; to preparing Minutes for all Meetings; to organizing breakfasts and the annual Wind-up at the Downs; to organizing tournaments; to handling our Health and Welfare System; to handling our 50/50 draws, and to preparing name tags. There is a lot of work involved in running a successful Club like ours.
A BIG THUMBS UP TO YOUR EXECUTIVE!!!
I hope everyone has a great season of golfing.
Brian Ridley, President
Men, 55 years of age and older, who want to golf in a fun league once a week from May to September. Membership is open to ALL Manitobans.
You will play in a different foursome each month from May to August at various golf clubs within a one hour’s drive of the city. You can play as a walker, cart-rider, or walker willing to ride. You can play on different days of each week, at a course selected by each member of the foursome on a rotating basis. There are also special teams for those who want to play in September. Green fees are paid to the courses and the Club has arranged for special green fees at some clubs around the province.
There is an annual Registration Fee of $150, which includes: 6 monthly Breakfast Meetings at a selected location; an annual Wind-up Dinner at a selected location; a Website with all of the club’s activities; a computerized Handicap System; an annual Roster Booklet of members and events, and distribution of Trophies and Prizes in various categories.
There are also optional monthly tournaments organized at select courses, which include 18 holes of golf, golf cart, putting contests and prizes for a nominal fee.
We have a Spares List, which is a list of golfers who only want to play when convenient. They replace regular golfers to make up a foursome when someone has an appointment or is out-of-town. The cost for Spares is also $150 per year. This includes the six breakfasts, wind-up dinner, tournaments, trophy eligibility, website access and the handicap system. Spares are informed by email (phone if no email) when a spare is needed and who to contact if they are interested. Like all members, they may join or organize ad hoc games that include other members. Any games that include another member can be entered into the eHandicap System. Most spares average about 10 games during the summer – some more, some less, depending on their availability.
